SIHH 2010... a quickie roundup review for now...

SIHH is upon us again and what amazes me is how year on year these companies can be churning out so many different new pieces, some of the brands coming out with 5-10 new pieces, either variations on a theme, in new metals and materials or completely new models. just amazing. their pipelines must be burgeoning with stuff to release... So as we know, SIHH is a Richemont gig with a number of other folks joining in the party, eg AP and RM. so what are my thoughts on the watches shown so far this year? ok can't do a full on thing so lets do a quick round up...

my favorites so far are these... "luminous beings are we... not this crude matter" ~ yoda said... and Lange have heard... say hello to the Zeitwerk Luminous

Patrimony Traditionnelle Chronograph Perpetual Calendar Calibre 1141QP in Plat

Greubel Forsey... the dark dials just work ;) 24 sec tourbillion
Photobucket

iwc... always had a soft spot for the portuguese perp calendars...

VC also released this classy set of watches. just beautiful... Vacheron Constantin Metiers d'Art La Symbolique des Laques

of all the brand showings, I think without a doubt, Vacheron Constantin, Lange & Sohne & Greubel Forsey have the nicest pieces of the lot on display.

some of the other VC pieces here... top 2 are so buyable...

these two JLC Atmos are just really nice from pics... unfortunately i didn't find their watch lineup this year that hot... well will reserve judement till i see them in the metal for the watches... at least we have this wonderful clocks to consider though... Atmos 1930 re-dition and 566 Marc newson in baccarat crystal...
Photobucket

the other nice GF pieces... different colors make a diff ;) the invention piece 3 in plat and double tourbillon technique...
Photobucket

the worst of the lot though would be the offerings from strong brands like AP and Panerai... the latter having the distinction of coming out with a watch that looks like a hommage to a replica. it is that bad...see the last pic in this post if you can think you can bear it...

the AP ROO Grand Prix collection...(MSRP US$94K plat, US$56K in RG, US$34K in forged carbon) No...

& really no... the panerai radiomir pam348

will update more as we get to see more... but as i don't have the luxury of going over to these fairs do check out the live pics taken by the mods/lucky folks on the usual watch forums... cheers, raph

you're welcome mate... there are some scary ones for sure :) but even amidst the nice ones, i haven't found one that called to me enough to put it on my potential future target list(noting my limited means :)... hope basel will be better.

cheers
