Sacha & Sons Review ~ A Good NY Deli Sandwich in Singapore... Reuben!
so i blame Jim Gaffigan, the shake shack lovin' new york comic for this craving for a new york style sammich. I have been following his show of late and of course some episodes r better than others. in terms of good quality shows i've seen recently though, louis c k kills it with horace and pete. might not be everyone's cuppa but i enjoyed watching it a lot. [it's purchasable on louisck.net for US$31] and of course i'm suffering from GOT withdrawal... the king of the north! i digress. Gaffigan and mate Dave hang out at Katz's. for those who do not know the place, think 'when harry met sally' and when sally began using the Lord's name in a not so holy manner.
so u want a good ny deli sandwich in Singapore? i give you Sacha and Sons. As always, go in with very low expectations and the only way will be up... and this can go way way up :) cheers, raph
well i've been to katz's when i dropped by New York in my 20s and i loved it! pastrami on rye... 'YES YES YES YES!!!' to quote Ms Albright. i knew then that it was very very very very very good but if i say i can still remember the taste i would be lying. and now we cut to singapore. in the cbd area, i used to get my fix at the smoke shack when it was in several locations... the first place it was at which i can't remember now then republic plaza basement, then far east square and now who knows where they are. I think tanjong pagar but that is TOO FAR for me to get to during my lunch break... and so i search high and search low and in the mandarin gallery next to wild honey (same owners) there is this little gem. more pix and some words follow.
let's go from the outside in
love the decor and deli stylings
pastrami-licious indeed!
i heard their bagels are excellent too but i have yet to try... it's on the list for the next visit
but nothing... nothing, should detract you from getting the reuben (my personal taste. u can choose
other sandwiches that u prefer) a wonderful "i'll have what she's having" pastrami on rye
