Comparison of a fake and real Panerai 127 Fiddy

this is what idle minds get up to... whats that saying about em being the devils workshop >:) It may be frowned upon by some in the watch community but i thought it would be fun to do a comparo report of the fake fiddy and the real thang so i'll stop with the words and let the pics do the talking... come on you have to be curious as to how good the replicas are getting no? i mean...honest. like when you were in thailand or some part of chinatown and checked out the cheapo fake rolexes to see how close they were to your real rollie sub :)

ok so the fake fiddy is a colleagues one, a much more senior colleague, which means I can't smash it and the real one is courtesy of my good pal SC Lau. hope you enjoy it and i will not entertain any questions about where to get a fake :) enjoy the short report

and the answer is that the one on the real fiddy strap is the fake-o one. ie the left one in the 1st and 2nd pics and the right one in this last pic.

no shots of the back as its easy to spot it from the number E0117 / 1950. Whoever owns the real E0117 fiddy must be fuming mad everytime he shows his off as invariably people in the know will go "thats a fake mate" :) hope u enjoyed this short report.

cheers

Ralp, great job! Is it possible for you to compare a Pam 217 lefty with its replica since the 217s are rarer? I am concerned as I have been considering a 217 too.

dont know if anyone still reads this, did panerai ever do a 127 with a blue face?

i've never heard of a blue face 127. if u saw 1 its probably a fake.

for 47mm fiddy cased models, the 127 & 217 are black dials n the 203 is a tobacco brown dial.

I have something VERY interesting to add to this! A good and wealthy client recently sent me one of these watches and as it was without box and paperwork I was advised to be VERY careful. He took the watch into a Panerai agent prior to sending it to me and was told that the watch was definitely genuine. On receiving the watch I was convinced that it was real until I looked at this and some replica sites and noticed that the case number on my watch was E0117!!!After looking at this watch is doesn't seem to display any of the giveaways of a counterfiet shown here so how do I tell for sure!?!?

Hi there, the simplest and surest way is to drop it off at a Richemont service centre for them to authenticate it. Even authorised dealers may get it wrong so don't bother with the check with an agent.
When you say you were "convinced that it was real" is it because you have handled many panerais before with the same movement? Normally replica movements are rather shoddy compared to the panerai movements which while not at the highest level has a reasonable level of finish.
hope this helps.
cheers, raph

Itv really easy to say with one is the fake. The glass on a good quality watch is made to réducteur the distorsion as much as possible. On the fake distorsion si son important that it's rediculus
